Another book from SVBRG

The Group has just produced its latest book in the Somerset Villages series. The study has been based on the parish of Combe St. Nicholas and summarises the work done by the group over a three year period.
In this volume we consider the local geography, geology, land tenure and farming. Against this background we examined fifty houses and farms dating from the 16
th to the 19th centuries and also the parish church that still exhibits elements of its Norman origins. Brief summaries are offered for each house and there is a tabulation of their principal phases of development. To round off this study of the parish we have included a commentary on the design and construction of vernacular buildings and reviewed the local milling industry and census returns.
